Pelé's Third World Cup
Brazil beat Italy in the final to win a third World Cup and keep the Jules Rimet trophy outright, with Pelé capping the tournament as the most decorated champion the game has produced.

Jairzinho
Brazil's 1970 team, built around Pelé, Jairzinho, Gérson, and Carlos Alberto, is still widely regarded as the finest side to have played the sport. In the final against Italy at the Estadio Azteca, Pelé opened the scoring with a header in the 18th minute, his fourth goal of the tournament.
Italy equalised before half-time, but Brazil pulled away in the second half through Gérson and Jairzinho, whose goal meant he had scored in every single match of the tournament, before Pelé's calm lay-off set up captain Carlos Alberto for a fourth goal finished first-time from outside the box, a move built from a passage of play involving almost the entire team and still shown as a model of collective football.
The 4-1 win gave Brazil their third World Cup, meaning under the rules of the day they kept the Jules Rimet trophy permanently, and gave Pelé a third winner's medal, a feat no other player has matched. He was carried from the pitch by fans and teammates at the final whistle, in what proved to be his last World Cup appearance.
